Sterling Construction were engaged as Principle Contractor to build the new Vistors Center for Penllergare Valley Woods. The new building has a low carbon footprint and uses green technology such as solar power and utilise the Trust’s Archimedes screw water pump to generate energy. It is clad with timber and is located in a spot that will enhance the sensitive Grade II registered picturesque landscape of Penllergare Valley Woods. There will also be extra toilets following the opening of the new centre and there will be more parking spaces available for local visitors and tourists from farther afield.
The Visitor Centre tells the incredible story of the Penllergare estate and its 19th Century owner John Dillwyn Llewelyn and his family. The Penllergare Trust has been managing and restoring the historic estate since 2000 and the hard work of its army of over 100 volunteers has helped attract up to 120,000 visitors annually to the site.
